One of the many reasons we love living in the Tampa Bay area is the number of golf course communities in Florida and the ability to play most of the year.
Florida has sunshine over 300 days of the year, remember the Sunshine State? Since the sun is shining most of the year, the Tampa Bay area has a ton of outdoor things to do, biking, hiking, fishing, boating, motorcycling (mostly in the northern counties), festivals and golfing. Within a 45 minute drive from Tampa, there are in excess of 35 courses available to play.
Getting To Them
Some of my favorites are Hernando Oaks, Cheval Golf and Country Club, Lake Jovita, Heritage Harbor and The TPC. All of which have their own challenges and difficulty levels.
Like hole number 1 at Lake Jovita South!!
Living In a Golf Course Community
In Florida, most golf course communities have amenities other than the course. The majority will have a clubhouse and community pool. Usually the clubhouse will include a dining room and almost always, a 19th hole for the golfers to lament on their game when they finish.
Picking a home on the course, or near the course, can be an issue. Why, you ask…GOLF BALLS!
Selecting which side of the fairway and how far from the tee box should be one of issues you look for. Just like how many bathrooms are in the home!
Being on the left side of the fairway reduces the number of golf balls flying into your yard, or hitting your home. Most golfers tend to slice the ball to the right about 180 to 210 yards from where they strike the ball.
Being near the tee box or green reduces the number of balls in your yard.
Living on The Course
We live on a golf course, the third hole which is a short par 3 about 140 yards tee to green. This home was on the yes list because of the hole length and because it was on the left side of the fairway.
If you are a golfer, you know that a hole of this length would require an 8 or 9 iron. A high, short shot! Rather than a driver or 3-wood. There is a key distinction.
“No one except a left handed player would hit this far left”, I told my wife as we moved into to the home. “There is no one that bad!”, I think is the way I put it.
My first time playing that hole, I pulled it far left and landed the ball between our home and the neighbors!
Homes Available In Golf Course Communities
In the three counties of Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas, there are over 1500 homes available in a golf club community. That number is constantly changing.
The home prices range from the mid $200s to over a million dollars. Some with course view, preservation area views and of course water views.
The options are endless.
